The original caption for this photograph reads: These Fifth Marine Division veterans of the fierce fighting on Iwo Jima let no one doubt their joy at the announcement of the Japanese surrender. Commandeering a jeep and what musical instruments were available as well as an American flag and a crude but effective sign they held their own victory parade through the camp streets.
