Timuel Black, President of the Chicago Chapter of the Negro American Labor Council, discusses the importance of educating Black students in the case James William Webb, Jr. et al. v. the Board of Education of the City of Chicago and Benjamin C. Willis. This is a civil case in which nineteen parents on behalf of their children brought a suit against the City of Chicago Board of Education and Benjamin Willis, general superintendent of the City of Chicago schools on October 23, 1963. The defendants were charged with maintaining and operating a racially segregated public school system. Judge Marovitz dismissed the suit without prejudice and without costs. The case file includes motions, notices, complaints, orders, and exhibits. This document was digitized by teachers in our Primarily Teaching 2014 Summer Workshop in Chicago.
