In this letter, the Croatian League of Illinois protested against the Immigration Act of 1924 because it restricted immigration from "Jugo-Slavia." It comes from a file about public opinion regarding quotas and other proposed restrictive immigration laws from 1924–1928. This file consists primarily of telegrams and correspondence between the Department of Labor, Bureau of Immigration headquarters, and members of the public on proposed changes to the immigration laws that made them generally more restrictive. As time went on, the focus of the correspondence was on Section 11 of the Immigration Act of 1924 that used aliens' national origins as opposed to country of birth in computing the quotas, which disparately affected different nationalities and ethnic groups compared to the existing quotas. This document was digitized by teachers in our Primarily Teaching 2014 Summer Workshop in Washington, D.C.
