In this letter from William Paterson, National Secretary of the International Labor Defense, to President Franklin Roosevelt, the activist requests that the President formally receives the mothers of five of the Scottsboro boys on Mother's Day. In a reply to this letter and a later telegram, the White House declined the request because the case was in Alabama's jurisdiction.
