Suggested Teaching Instructions

This activity is for grades 8-12 and can be used in a unit on the Great Depression. This activity can be done independently or in pairs.

When starting the activity, select a photograph to model to show the class on how to analyze a photograph. When analyzing a photograph, demonstrate how the students should answer the questions listed in the introduction. When students are at or near the National Industrial Recovery Act, tell them that the document and the following telegram do not share the same questions as the photographs. Tell them to analyze each document and then answer the following questions that come after each document.

Description

Students will be analyzing a series of photographs taken during the Great Depression along with the first page of the National Industrial Recovery Act and a telegram from W. G. Blalcok. Students will be looking at the effects of the Great Depression and an attempt to help with the economic recovery.
