In this eyewitness statement, three radio telephone operators describe how Staff Sergeant Clifford Sims saved the lives of all the soldiers in the area. Sims was fatally wounded when he threw himself on an exploding booby trap outside of Hue, South Vietnam, on February 21, 1968.
As a result of this and other statements, Staff Sergeant Sims was awarded posthumously the Congressional Medal of Honor. In an extraordinary occurrence, SSG Joe Hooper of the same company earned the Congressional Medal of Honor on the same day.
