In this motivational analysis, Lieutenant Colonel Richard J. Tallman describes Staff Sergeant Clifford Sims, who saved the lives of his men by throwing himself on an exploding booby-trap. Tallman profiles Sims and how he behaved with his men in combat. Tallman believed that Sims was fully aware of the sacrifice he was making but was “more poignantly concerned for the fate of his men were he to choose any other course.”
As a result of this and other statements, Staff Sergeant Sims was awarded posthumously the Congressional Medal of Honor.
