First Lieutenant Cleo C. Hogan gave this statement regarding the heroism of Staff Sergeant Clifford Sims to support awarding him the Medal of Honor. Hogan was present on February 21, 1968, when Sims died by throwing himself on top of a booby trap, saving the lives of his men in Vietnam.
As a result of this and other statements, Staff Sergeant Sims was awarded posthumously the Congressional Medal of Honor. In an extraordinary occurrence, SSG Joe Hooper of the same company earned the Congressional Medal of Honor on the same day.
