Before beginning the activity, ask students to speak about their experience with creating gardens.
- Have they ever planted seeds?
- Have they grown vegetables?
- Have they eaten the vegetables they have grown?
After discussing their answers, tell students that throughout history, gardens have always been grown to provide food for families.
Open the activity and click on one of the photographs to model the activity. Model careful document analysis to see if they can identify the item or activity in each box. Then drag the document to its location in the sequence at the bottom of the screen.
Conclude the activity by asking students to respond to the following questions:
- What is the order of growing vegetables in a garden?
- What do you notice in the pictures?
- Ask your family members or teachers if they grew gardens or planted seeds when they were children.
- Draw a picture of a garden you would like to grow.
