Description

This political cartoon is a great visual of the amount of world power the United States had during this time of Industrial Revolution. The cartoon is showing the United States as the cat and Germany, Russia, Italy, France and Austria as the mice trying to put a bell on the cat in order to know when it was coming. The mice are too scared to approach the cat though. This is due to the American and Philippines War causing a lot of tension between the nations as they felt the United States was asserting too much power, yet not being powerful enough to help stop them. Though the cat needs to be stopped nobody is willing to face its fury and determination. These countries are seeing themselves as a snack to the United States, something that can be easily demolished. It is a way to showcase the fault of a indecisive leader and how waiting for someone else to strike will prevent anything from taking place. While also highlighting the threat that the United States is bringing to these other nations and how its powers need to be checked.
