Collectively, primary documents about D-Day create an historical narrative. However, not all records were created for the same purpose. Some were deliberately “front-facing,” meaning they were produced and distributed to the public to promote a particular narrative of heroism, sacrifice, and victory (propaganda). Others were created simply to document events and were not intended to shape public perception. Still others fall somewhere in between.
