With a fresh ear of corn in her lap as a model, a Department of Agriculture employee paints a sign for the Cooperative Extension Service. Established in 1914 to provide agricultural and home economics education to farm families—then over 30 percent of the population—the Extension Service produced classes, radio and television programs, and exhibits.
