This copy of an 1876 Currier & Ives lithograph shows General George Washington taking command of the American Army at Cambridge, Massachusetts, on July 3, 1775. The image was collected as part of the George Washington Bicentennial Commission's plans for a celebration of the birth and accomplishments of the nation's first President.
