This is a copy of John Trumbull's 1824 oil painting "General George Washington Resigning his Commission." It depicts Washington resigning his commission as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in the Maryland State House in Annapolis. Trumbull’s original painting is
on display in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol.
