The original caption of this photograph reads: Peace on Earth- As Old Glory is lowered in the gathering dusk of VJ Day, a Marine kneels in silent prayer beside the grave of a comrade in the First Marine Divison cemetery on Okinawa. Peace came for him after the war as it came for his friend on the battlefield.
