Original caption states: "Doctor Stephen S. Wise, Rabbi of the Free Synagogue, has become a laborer in the shipbuilding yards of the Luder Marine Construction Company, at Stanford, Connecticut, together with his eighteen year old son, at the right. They report for work every morning at 7 A.M. and stop with rest at 4:50, receiving the same compensation as the other laborers. Upon receiving the first weeks pay he donated it to a man who was in need in the yard."
