Description

In April 1917 the California Hop Growers telegrammed Congressman John Edward Raker objecting, on economic grounds, to possible legislation banning the brewing of beer during the war. Hop growers argued that a sudden ban on alcohol would leave thousands unemployed because the hop crop was already planted for 1917.
