In 1954, the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency held public hearings to investigate comic books' corrupting influence on the nation's youth. In response to this scrutiny, publishers voluntarily created a "Comics Code" to self-regulate content that was violent and sexual in nature. Comic books that adhered to the code's standards bore a stamp-shaped seal of approval on their cover. This issue of Lover's Lane bears a star-shaped stamp from an earlier, but ultimately unsuccessful effort to establish a comic publisher's code.
This primary source comes from the Records of the U.S. Senate.
