This document is a menu for the Immigrant Dining Room on Ellis Island. It comes from an investigation of conditions at Ellis Island. Ordered by Secretary of Labor William B. Wilson, the inquiry looked into charges of unsanitary conditions and deaths under inhumane circumstances on Ellis Island. The investigation was triggered by a January 1920 article in the "New York Call" reporting the deaths of several alien communists and other radicals. The ensuing report on the food, detention, dormitory, and hospital facilities at Ellis Island responded to the charges made in the article.
