On June 28, 1937, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed this act establishing the Civilian Conservation Corps. This New Deal program combined the President’s desire to employ young, jobless men with his longstanding interest in conservation. By the time the program ended in 1942, approximately 3 million men had worked on projects in the nation’s public forests and parks.
