This document is verification from the Archivist of the United States that the 27th Amendment was ratified by the appropriate number of states. This amendment requires a congressional election before the implementation of any legislation that changes the pay given to Congressmen. The 27th Amendment was introduced as Article 2 of the 12 Articles proposed by Congress in the original Bill of Rights in 1789 but was not ratified by the states at that time. It was re-introduced in 1992 and passed.
