On August 3, 1978, President Carter wrote private letters to Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin to be delivered by Secretary of State Cyrus Vance; this is Carter's letter to Begin.
The letters proposed a meeting of Carter, Sadat, and Begin at a time and location to be determined. These efforts would culminate in the Camp David Summit between the United States, Egypt, and Israel from September 5-17, 1978.
