This page shows attorneys with last names beginning with the letter O. Sandra Day O'Connor signed the roll on this page, showing she registered as an attorney in Arizona on November 10, 1958.
Sandra Day O’Connor, who spent part of her childhood on a family ranch in Arizona, grew up to become the first female Supreme Court justice. She graduated from Stanford with a law degree, and, at a time when opportunities were limited for women, worked for free for the San Mateo county attorney. Eventually she was the state assistant attorney general in Arizona from 1965-69, and also served two terms in the Arizona state senate.
Nominated in 1981 by President Ronald Reagan, her appointment to the Supreme Court garnered unanimous Senate approval. After serving 24 terms, she wrote a letter to President George W. Bush in 2005 indicating her retirement once a successor was place.
