This aerial photograph, taken on October 16, 1954, shows Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The top of the colossal Mount Rushmore National Monument—the sculpture depicting the heads of presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln—is the outcropping just to the left and above the middle of the photograph. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum and nearly 400 men and women worked on the carvings from 1927 to 1941. The town of Keystone is in the upper right corner of this photograph.
This primary source comes from the Records of the Farm Service Agency.
