An Act declaring the consent of Congress to the independence of the district of Kentucky.The Legislature of the commonwealth of Virginia having [carat] e by an Act intitled “An Act concerning the erection of the District of Kentucky into an Independent State” passed on the eighteenth day of December one Thousand seven hundred and eighty nine. Assented that the said District should become a State separate from and Independent of the said Commonwealth, and Congress being with to consent thereto _ Therefore
Be in enacted by the Senate and house of Representatives of the United States of America [carat] in Congress assembled, and it is hereby enacted and declared that in conformity with the powers vest
Vested in Congress by the said third section of the fourth article of the Constitution of the United States of America. The Congress doth consent that on the first day of June one thousand seven hundred and ninety two the District of Kentucky as composed of the counties specified in the first section of the said act of the legislature of the commonwealth of Virginia passed on the eighteenth day of December one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine shall be received and admitted as a distinct Member of the United States of America and as a States separate from and independent of the said commonwealth of Virginia by the name and style of the State of Kentucky._
