This cartoon depicts Miss Democracy being fussed over by a number of Democratic Presidential hopefuls. The larger figures in the center were the front-runners for the Democratic Presidential nomination at that time. They are House Speaker Champ Clark, New Jersey Governor Woodrow Wilson, and Ohio Governor Judson Harmon. The candidates in the background--House majority leader Oscar W. Underwood, former Missouri Governor Joseph W. Folk, Indiana Governor Thomas Marshall, and Massachusetts Governor Eugene Foss--are the long-shots in the nomination bid. At this point it was still early in the race, so no one was certain who would emerge victorious. Wilson eventually won the nomination and was paired with Thomas Marshall as his Vice Presidential running mate.
