Original Caption: Somewhere in England, Maj. Charity E. Adams, Columbia, S.C., and Capt. Abbie N. Campbell, Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, Ala., inspect the first contingent of negro members of the Women’s Army Corps assigned to overseas service.

Note: The U.S. Army’s Center of Military History has identified the officer with Major Charity E. Adams as Captain Mary Kearney and not Captain Abbie Noel Campbell. All three women served in the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion.
