This poster is one of many that were used by the Office of War Information (OWI) to assist government agencies and to spread ideas, promote government war programs, sway public opinion and communicate propaganda. The themes illustrated in the art document the needs, messages and values the OWI considered critical to the success of its campaigns and the war effort. The art and the posters produced from it are designed to appeal to the public’s conscience and patriotism by calling upon everyone to make personal sacrifices to further the national cause.
