Treaty with Peru-Bolivia Confederation

Description
Although the Confederation of Peru and Bolivia lasted only three years, this ornate treaty remains as a record of that brief period. Bolivia’s dictator, Andre Santa Cruz, conquered Peru in 1835, established the Confederation of Peru and Bolivia, and took the lifetime position of Protector. With this Treaty of Amity, Commerce, and Navigation, signed in Lima, Peru, on November 30, 1836, the United States recognized the new nation. The Confederation dissolved in 1839. Cruz authenticated his signature with a silver disk, or skippet, containing a wax seal.
