Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin posed on the surface of the Moon next to the U.S. flag on July 20, 1969. The second man ever to walk on the Moon, Aldrin, along with mission commander Neil Armstrong, erected the flag, took photographs, collected rock samples, and experimented with moving under gravity one-sixth that of Earth’s. Michael Collins was also a crew member on Apollo 11.
Over 600 million television viewers watched the moon landing, making it one of the most watched events of all time.
