New York State Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage
WHEREAS, it is proposed by those advocating suffrage for women to introduce at this session of Congress a bill providing for an amendment to the Federal Constitution, given women the ballot, and
WHEREAS, it is our best judgement that according to the Constitution and fundamental principles of our government, it is the sole province of each state to decide this question for itself, and
WHEREAS, in most of the states where this question has been submitted to the people, their verdict has been adverse to granting suffrage to women,
We, the undersigned, believing that the passage of such a bill would be antagonistic to the sovereign rights of the several states, hereby earnestly protest against such action and respectfully petition the members of both Houses of the Congress of the United States to reject any bill which has for its object the forcing of woman suffrage upon unwilling states by means of a federal constitutional amendment.
