President Richard Nixon departed the White House for the last time on “Army One,” the Presidential helicopter. During the Nixon presidency, the duties of the presidential helicopter were shared jointly by the United States Army and the Marine Corps. Depending on whether it was an Army or Marine pilot, the aircraft was known as either Army One or Marine One. On the final day of the Nixon presidency, Army Lieutenant Colonel Gene T. Boyer was the pilot; thus, the helicopter was called Army One that day.
