The National Bicentennial Time Capsule was created as an officially recognized American Revolution Bicentennial Administration project. It was one of 56 time capsules developed and manufactured by Reynolds Metal Company as a bicentennial gift to the United States. It is to remain in the National Archives and to be opened on July 4, 2075. The engraving on the capsule states, “The Reynolds Metal Company Bicentennial Time Capsule to be presented to the Governors of 50 States, 4 Territories, and Our Nation’s Capital to be opened July 4, 2075.”
