On September 14, 1993, President Clinton signed supplemental agreements to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) ceremony in the East Room of the White House with former presidents present. The pact, which took effect on January 1, 1994, created the world’s largest free-trade zone and was signed by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
