One month following the Camp David Summit, Prime Minister Begin and President Sadat were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In this cable message received by Secretary of State Cyrus Vance on behalf of President Carter, Sadat declares, “…his believe [sic] that President Carter should have received the Nobel Prize. It was President Carter [sic] patience, persistence and understanding which have made possible the progress thus far achieved in moving forward peace in the Middle East.” President Carter would eventually be accorded this honor in December 2002 for his work in human rights.
