This manifest (a list of passengers or cargo aboard a ship) shows two enslaved women named Betsey and Harriet who were being transported from New Orleans to Philadelphia in 1821.
It includes the sworn statement of the ship captain that he was not engaged in the transatlantic slave trade. The Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves had been enacted in 1807, but the interstate sale of slaves remained legal.
