The Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804–1806 Memorial by Leo Friedlander was dedicated on the Oregon State Capitol grounds in Salem, Oregon in 1934.
The relief sculpture depicts Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on horses being led by Sacagawea. Inscribed on the base is “Westward the Star of Empire Takes its Way.”
On May 30, 2020, during a series of national protests against police brutality and racism in policing, the monument to Lewis and Clark was vandalized wtih spray paint by protestors.
