President Carter’s handwritten note shows his acceptance of former National Security Adviser and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger’s call of congratulations, as delivered by Phil Wise, appointments secretary to President Carter.
The previous day, on September 17, 1978, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin had signed the Camp David Accords, after 12 days of negotiations with President Carter serving as mediator.
