Artist James Montgomery Flagg created this World War II Army recruiting poster featuring Uncle Sam. One of the most recognizable of all posters, the Army first used Flagg’s design during World War I. Uncle Sam’s face is modeled after the artist’s own.
“I Want You For The U.S. Army” poster is a part of America’s 100 Docs, an initiative of the National Archives Foundation in partnership with More Perfect that invites the American public to vote on 100 notable documents from the holdings of the National Archives. Visit 100docs.vote today.
