Less than three months before the 1948 election, Presidential incumbent Harry S. Truman received this memorandum (the first page seen here) outlining the goals of his campaign against New York Governor Thomas E. Dewey.
Dewey’s election seemed a foregone conclusion. But 1 month later, Truman began his whistle stop campaign, traveling 21,000 miles in 33 days to win narrowly over Dewey in November.
