Chicago Public Schools Map, District Superintendent Map

This map shows the neighborhood breakdown and locations of elementary schools in the Chicago Public Schools. It comes from from the court case James William Webb, Jr. et al. v. The Board of Education of the City of Chicago and Benjamin Willis. This is a civil case in which nineteen parents on behalf of their children brought a suit against the City of Chicago Board of Education and Benjamin Willis, general superintendent of the City of Chicago schools on September 18, 1961. The defendants were charged with maintaining and operating a racially segregated public school system in violation of the fourteenth amendment. The amended complaint was dismissed based on an out-of-court settlement on August 28, 1963. The plaintiffs failed in their attempt to have that decision voided on October 21, 1963 and filed another complaint in the Chicago federal court, leading to civil case 63C1895.
