The fight for civil rights was one with many perspectives, strategies, and leaders. The outcome was vital to a large swath of Americans who suffered from inequality within the United States. As many as 25,000 people participated in the non-violent Selma March from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, from March 21-25 in 1965 in support of the Voting Rights Act. The violent means used to end this march and stop the protesters elicited a response from President Lyndon Baines Johnson.
