Seeing the Big Picture

Since 1870, the United States government has set aside certain days of the year as national holidays (officially known as Federal holidays). Starting with just four days originally, there are now 11 Federal holidays. While officially Federal holidays only mean that federal employees receive a paid day off, many states, businesses, schools and other groups also observe many of these days.
