Posthumous widow’s pension
During the Revolutionary War, Pvt. Peter Booth served 17 months in the New York line. In 1838, four years after his wife, Mary, died, their descendants applied for a widow’s pension on behalf of Mary and submitted this sampler, made by Huldah Booth, ca. 1818, as proof of Peter’s marriage to Mary. On March 24, 1851, the pension office awarded the descendants of the Booths $56.66 per year.
